International Fragrance Day: why March 21st is worth celebrating

March 21st is International Fragrance Day, a relatively new occasion, officially established in 2018 by The Fragrance Foundation, but one that speaks of a pleasure thousands of years old: that of wearing a scent that says something about you.
The history of perfume begins long before today's elegant bottles. Britannica notes that the art of perfumery was known as early as Antiquity, in civilizations such as Egypt, India, China, Greece, and Rome, and even the origin of the word "perfume" comes from the Latin per fumum, meaning "through smoke," a direct reference to the early use of resins and aromas in rituals.
Perfume is by no means a modern invention. We find it dating back to Antiquity, when it played an important role in rituals, everyday life, and the way people expressed their status.
Perhaps that is exactly why perfume remains important today. It is not just a beauty product, nor merely a step in a routine. It is one of the most personal choices. Sometimes you return year after year to the same scent. At other times, you change your perfume with the season, your mood, or the stage of life you are in. Over time, you come to associate certain smells with very specific places, people, and moments.
For Atelier Rebul, perfume has a natural significance. The brand's story begins in 1895, in Istanbul, with Jean Cesar Reboul and the opening of Grande Pharmacie Parisienne, one of Turkey's first pharmacies. From the very beginning, the Rebul universe was shaped by the meeting of rigor, tradition, and olfactory sensitivity, and this combination is still felt today in the brand's identity.

That is why International Fragrance Day is not just a date on the calendar. It is a good excuse to return to the scents you truly love, rediscover the perfumes you enjoy wearing, or choose something new that suits you now.
