Every scent has a different effect on every person; the best way to understand this is to test the perfume on a small area of your skin and observe how it changes throughout the day.
The effect of perfumes on other people's skin may not be the same for you. This happens because everyone has a different skin scent. When choosing a perfume, you should rely on the scent you perceive about half an hour after applying the perfume to your skin. Perfumes give you a unique scent, depending on their notes and your body chemistry.
The Three Notes of a Perfume
Every perfume is composed of three main notes that define its scent: top notes, middle notes, and base notes. Each of these layers gives the perfume a special identity. Identifying the notes you appreciate and choosing a perfume that contains them in its middle notes, while also taking the base notes into account, will be the right way to choose your perfume.
Top notes are represented by the first scent you smell when you apply the perfume, and its effect lasts for a few minutes. The middle note appears when the effect of the top note fades and lasts for a few hours. The character of the perfume, what makes it different and appreciated, is actually in this layer. As the scent settles on the skin, the middle note becomes the most evident. When buying a perfume, it would be better to wait a little and evaluate it when the middle notes reveal themselves. The base note, on the other hand, adds richness and depth to the scent and is usually perceived at least half an hour after applying the perfume, after the middle note. The effect of the base note is parallel to the longevity of the perfume and can last all day.
